Chris Lynn

The big-hitting Chris Lynn is hopeful that he would be able to play for Kolkata Knight Riders in the upcoming season on Indian Premier League (IPL) after dislocating his shoulder on Wednesday.

Scans on the 27-year-old’s shoulder have indicated there wasn’t any major injury, but he won’t be able to return to on-field action immediately and would miss the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) starting February 22 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

“Chris dislocated his right shoulder after landing awkwardly on it when fielding the ball,” said Australian team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris. “His shoulder was able to be put back into place at the ground and he was consequently sent for X-Rays which revealed no major bone injury. At this stage Chris will not travel to the Pakistan Super League in Dubai.

“He will return to Brisbane to undergo further scans and assessment and from there we will have a better understanding of the ongoing management, along with the return-to-play timeframes.”

Lynn said his focus is on rehabilitation and IPL.

“I’m disappointed to not go to the Pakistan Super League as planned, but I’ll now focus on rehabilitation and working as hard as I can, with the hope to still take part in the Indian Premier League later this year,” Lynn was quoted as saying by ICC.

Lynn, who was fielding at mid-wicket in the final, sprinted to his left to stop the ball but tried to pick the ball with his right arm and jarred it on the turf. The batsman was then forced to leave the field clutching his right arm in pain.

It was later confirmed by Cricket Australia that Lynn had popped his shoulder out of its socket. While Australia won the game by 19 runs on the DLS method, Lynn did not come out to bat and was seen in a sling during the match.

Shoulder injury and hamstring niggle also forced Lynn to miss the majority of the 2017/18 Big Bash League – Australia’s domestic T20 league. In the five matches for Brisbane Heat, Lynn smashed 148 runs at a strike rate of 162.63.

In the last edition of the Indian Premier League while playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Lynn had dislocated his left shoulder while attempting to take a catch and that had forced him out of the tournament for three weeks.

Lynn was grabbed once again by KKR in the 2018 auction for a whopping Rs 9.6 crore.
