Mysore Dasara is the state festival (Nadahabba) of the state of Karnataka. It is a ten day festival with the the last day being Vijayadashami.
According to the legend, on Vijayadashami, Hindu Goddess Chamundeshwari (one of the forms of goddess Shakti) killed the demon Mahishasura, from whose name the city of Mysore has derived its name.
The city of Mysore has a long tradition of celebrating the Dasara festival where the festival is being celebrated for more than four centuries. In 2012, the Mysore Dasara festival completed 400th anniversary. The grand celebrations of Mysore Dasara attract a large audience including foreigners.
Mysore Dasara 2015 :
In 2015, the Mysore Dasara festival is being held from 13th October to 23rd October 2015.
Important features of the Mysore Dasara include Jamboo Savari, Torch Light Parade and Illumination of the Mysore Palace.
