Varalakshmi Vratham, also known as Varalaxmi Puja, Var Mahalaxmi Puja is an auspicious day dedicated to Goddess Varalakshmi (Goddess Lakshmi) – the goddess of wealth and prosperity.
Varalakshmi Vratham is peformed by married woman for the well being of all the family members, especially husband, to get progency etc.
Varalakshmi Vratham is a popular ritual observed by married women in South India States like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra on second Friday of Shravan month of Hindu Calendar.

Varalakshmi literally means the boon granting goddess. It is believed that worshipping Goddess Varalakshmi on this day is equivalent to worshipping Ashtalaksmi – the eight goddesses of Wealth, Earth, Learning, Love, Fame, Peace, Pleasure, and Strength.
These eight forms of Laxmi or Astalaxmi are – Aadilaxmi, Dhanya Lakshmi, Dhairya Laxmi, Gaja Lakshmi, Santana Laxmi, Vijaya Lakshmi, Vidya Laxmi and Dhana Lakshmi.
Ashtalakshmi Puja, Vaibhava Lakshmi Puja, and Sampada Gauri Vratham are also performed on Varalakshmi viratham day in many places.
