Partial Lunar Eclipse – Chandra Grahan India Visibility & Timing – 4 June 2012


The first Lunar Eclipse (Chandra Grahan) of the year 2012 will take place on 4th June 2012. It will be a partial lunar eclipse.

Penumbral eclipse starts – 08:48:09 UT
Partial eclipse starts – 09:59:53 UT
Greatest eclipse – 11:03:13 UT
Partial eclipse ends – 12:06:30 UT
Penumbral eclipse ends – 13:18:17 UT

This lunar eclipse will be completely visible over Australia and New Zealand, rising over eastern Asia and setting over western North America. New England and eastern Canada will miss the entire eclipse since the event begins after moonset in those regions.

Observers in western Canada and the USA will have the best views with moonset occurring sometime after mid-eclipse.

4 June 2012 Partial Lunar Eclipse – Chandra Grahan Visibility & Timing in India :

In India the eclipse will be visible only in eastern and southern part of the country, as shown in map below.

In India people will get to see the penumbral eclipse ending phase from 5:36:30 PM to 6:48:17 PM in evening during the moonrise time. So logically this eclipse is visible in cities where moon will rise before 6:48:17 PM in evening.

Most of the North Indian Hindu calendars have ignored this lunar eclipse as it not visible in North India. But some South Indian Panchangams mentioned the grahan timings.

In India 4 June 2012 Lunar Eclipse will be visible in Itanagar, Agartala, Imphal, Gangtok, Shillong, Dispur, Aizawl, Kohima, Patna, Ranchi, Kolkata, Bhubaneshwar, Raipur, Chennai, Bangalore, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, etc.

The eclipse will not be visible in western and northern part of the country.
