Union Railway Budget 2012 – 2013 Expectations : Railway Budget Live on March 14

Railway Budget 2012-13

The dates of the Union Budget and the Railway Budget are been announced the and Railways Minister Dinesh Trivedi is all set to present it on 14th february 2012 and will be live telecast on Official LokSabha Channel. People have been expecting something new from the budget and hope it to be people friendly. It is heard that railway budget will be witnessing a “dynamic” fare hike this year.

Sources within the ministry has stated that the lower income groups and the unreserved janta will be happy while the high-end passengers will be unhappy of a hike in fares. In other words, passengers will notice a higher amount of increase in fares between Delhi-Howrah and Delhi-Mumbai sectors and beyond 400 km journey.

The raise would not affect passengers without reservation and those traveling in reserved second-class coaches would only get affected if they are traveling beyond 400 km. Passengers of AC and first class will have to pay higher fares in limited routes in specific periods. This would not be announced immediately but would be pitched for strongly in this Budget.”

There have been hints that a service tax of 10.2 per cent may be levied on tickets in AC’s and first-class and a chances of an additional surcharge tax like safety, modernisation and station redevelopment.
