Yesterday what is called a “Pitch Party” took place on the pitch to be used for the Third Test between India and Australia at the Perth Stadium which started today.

Fans, Indian cricket team management and players were stunned when they saw extraordinary footage of the Beer Party held on the Perth Stadium pitch which showed people apparently drinking, lying and walking on the WACA pitch only hours before the third Test was due to begin in Perth today.

In a bizarre development, the Indian news channel Times Now filmed more than a dozen people – understood to include members of the ground staff – on the wicket to be used for the Test, having removed the pitch covers.

The footage was then shown to members of the Indian touring party at their team hotel near the WACA, including captain M.S. Dhoni and senior team officials and coach Duncan Fletcher.

Indian cricket officials have called for an investigation.

Senior Indian cricket official Rajiv Shukla said Cricket Australia must look into the issue.

“It is a serious matter and the Australian cricket board should look into it,” he said.

India are already down 2 – 0 in the series and are looking to win and gain back some confidence.
