2017 Makar Sankranti / Pongal Puja Muhurat Timings


In 2017, 14th January will be celebrated as Makar Sankranti is many parts of India. It is the day that marks the transition of the Sun into Makara rashi (Capricorn) on its celestial path.

On this day special puja of Lord Surya (Sun) are conducted. People take oil bath, prepare special recipes and offer naivedya to Lord Surya (other Gods – Shiva Parvati / Lakshmi Narayan). These all activities are carried out in Shubh Mahurut.

Sun enters into Capricron (Makara rashi) celestial path at 7:50 AM on 14th January 2017.

In 2017, as per North Indian Hindi calendars, Marathi, and Gujarati calendars, auspicious time for Makar Sankranti Puja is from 7.50 am to 6.17 pm on 14th January 2017.

As per Andhra Pradesh (Telugu), Karnataka (Kannada), Tamil (Tamil Nadu) & Malayalam (Kerala) calendars, auspicious time for Sankranthi puja muhuarat is – 7.50 am to 8.14 am.

People of Tamil Nadu celebrate this day as Pongal which is their harvest festival.
