Sankashti Chaturthi, also known as Sankata Hara Chaturthi or simply called Sankashti, is an auspicious day dedicated to Lord Ganesha and his worship.
This day is celebrated on the Chaturthi (4th day) of the Krishna Paksha (dark lunar phase) of every Hindu Calendar month.
Last Sankashti was on 1st January 2013, which was a Tuesday hence it was called Angarika Sankashti Chaturthi (most auspicious Sankashti) and the next Sankashti will fall on Wednesday, 30th January 2013.
On this day, devotees of Lord Ganesha observe strict fast which they break at night, after having darshan/auspicious sight of the moon.
Although this fast of Sankashti is observed in many parts of India, it is more observed in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.
